OFM fan retention
Definition
Fan retention in OFM is the ability to keep subscribers over time. A strong retention rate means less churn, more recurring revenue, and a stable fan base. Retention is directly tied to the quality of chatting, the consistency of content, and the fan's sense of connection with the creator.
Practical example
A creator goes from a 55% retention rate to 72% by putting in place: retention messages 3 days before each renewal, exclusive content for loyal fans (3+ months of tenure), and more personalized chatting. Result: 45 more fans retained each month, or about $2,000 in preserved revenue.
Best practices
Send a retention message 3-5 days before the subscription expires. Create a loyalty program (bonus content, special pricing) for long-term fans. Publish content regularly (a silent account = fans who leave). Keep chatting active even with non-buying fans.
Key figures
Average retention rate in OFM, all cohorts combined: 60-70%. For the first-month cohort, it drops to 35-50%. Good retention rate: 70-80%. Replacement cost of a lost fan: 5-10x the retention cost. A fan who makes it past month 3 stays an average of 6-8 months.
Common mistakes
Doing no retention work at all and making up for churn with more acquisition. That is 5 to 10 times more costly in effort.
